"I have just moved to the village and come under the warm, fuzzy sweater of SWBB.  Having had broadband in my previous house for some years, it was a priority for me to get it here, if at all possible. One call to SWBB, one visit where everything was explained.  I filled in the (simple) form and we were done. With a start date about 6 days after. The modem arrived by post a few days' later and on the 'switch-on' date, SWBB called me to say my line was up and running."

"I followed the instructions to connect the modem (which LOOK very complicated but are quite straightforward. If I have any criticism it is that the supplier of the modem could look at rewriting the instructions) and sat down with restrained anticipation."

"Hmmmmm......NOT the super-speedy website browse I had been looking forward to. Pages just weren't coming up or they weren't loading properly or they were timing out. I checked all connections, rebooted, fiddled, cursed......

....then did the sensible thing and emailed SWBB. Oddly the ONE site that came up straight away fully loaded was the SWBB one!!  SWBB responded and asked me to do a 'speed test'. It took 3 goes to load that site!! A phone call from them confirmed a time for a call out that evening to check the system and they were bang on time. They improved my connection speed no end; removed unused programmes that might cause conflict; ran a programme to check deep DEEP down for viruses and other nasties (and found only 5 minor 'infections' to my surprise and delight!!); showed me how to do a few things I had never been able to work out and then discovered that my problem was my ethernet card. A switch of cards, a quick test and we were cooking on gas!! There is NO WAY I would have been able to sort that out for myself, mostly because I didn't know my system had two ethernet cards, one of which was clearly more compatible with the modem and connection than the other"

"I include this incident to illustrate two things. Firstly, I was pretty happy with my old bb provider. One of the main reasons I chose them was that their customer service was NOT on a menu system (an aside: I had to phone the DVLA recently too. It took 4 MINUTES to get through the menu selection!!!). I HATE phone menu systems. I like people. I like dealing with people. But I doubt even the customer service at my old bb provider could have helped me with this problem over the phone. With SWBB you get REAL, knowledgable people. Who WANT to help. They WANT you to have a good time with your bb connection and your computer. Email responses are speedy. Ditto phone calls. It's real 'service' in the old-fashioned sense. I have no doubt that SWBB  know all their subscribers by name. As a newcomer to the village they were also able to suggest some local activities I might find interesting."
